The slip eccentrics fitted to the leading axle.

The eccentric rods linking the slip eccentrics to the valves. Notice the fixed driving plates either side of the eccentrics themselves and the knuckle joints in the rods to allow the eccentrics to be moved sideways along the axle to engage with the driving plates so that the loco could change direction.

The firebox. Notice that it's not incorporated into the boiler itself at this stage. (Although that would come very soon after 'Rocket's construction)Also notice the water jacket and stays, and the fire tubes into the boiler.

'Rocket' had the pioneer locomotive boiler.
