Between the frames and below the boiler we see the Stephenson link valve gear with eccentrics on the rear (driving) axle. The eccentric rods drive vertically mounted slide valves just inside the frame plates.

The leading axle is quite plain, but notice how the eccentric rod is shaped to pass below the axle.

Inside the cab. notice the two bins on either side which are the coal bunkers, The left hand one also contains the handbrake, an unusual location to say the least!

Inside the cab, the low boiler offers a good view forward. The only instrument is the boiler pressure gauge.
