#5 was the last locomotive to be used on the last steam only freight only railroad in the US. It was steamed up from the plant boiler. The railroad operated until a bridge collapse. The old mill is gone.

If you go to the little town of Lando, SC a few miles north off Hwy 901, they have a museum dedicated to the mill town of Lando and the bygone Manetta Cotton Mill. This engine is dearly loved by the locals as it was the life line for Lando to get people and materials to/from Edgemore,SC, then on to Charlotte. Someday, the museum hopes to move the train back for a permament display in Lando. See http://landomanettamillshistorycenter.com/

Personally I would hate to see this locomotive become a oil burner especially with the oil prices these days.

Was passing through Richburg, SC on 2/14/09 and spotted this little H.K. Porter engine on display under a covered shed in "downtown" Richburg. Still appears to be in relatively good shape, at least from a cosmetic standpoint. Robert Thompson Irmo, SC
