I worked on the engine crew at the BHC from 1994 through 1997 while attending college. We started to tear down the #103 (which was always used primarily as a parts source for the #104) in the Summer of 1997. In the next few years, it was stripped down to the frame/boiler. It was then decided to focus on obtaining a larger loco which could, in turn, haul more cars. The work on the #103 took a back seat when the BHC#110 was purchased and restored to working order.

Changed the status of this locomotive from 'Operational' to 'Restoration'. Jeff Terry and others have indicated that it never operated on the Black Hills Central. Mike Grice, the steam foreman of the BHC says that they "still have plans to return her to service".
