As of May 2024, this engine is in full working order at the "Museo Ferroviario de Haedo" (Haedo Railway Museum). It was, in fact, built in 1905 by R.Stephenson, and was misidentified in 1968 as no. 389. It is actually no. 390, later being renumbered in 1912 to its current number, 2037.

What a wonderful survivor.

Although this loco is far away from the UK, it represents a lost type on a lost UK railway, the Hull and Barnsley Railway. The original design was by Kitsons of Leeds and the H&BR had several locos like these, but standard gauge. They were used to shunt the docks at Hull.

It is unusual in that it looks at first like a side tank loco, but the side sheets serve only to hide parts of the Kitson valve gear and the well tank filler. A close look at the photo will reveal a large diameter tube behind the side sheet which is the filler pipe, and a rod leading to the valve chest. The water tank lie between the loco frames.
