I fired #44 in 1972 while it ran on Charleston AFB. Not sure if it ran after that.

A committe known as Project 44 made up of Rufus Timms, Marty Chaney and Tim Hill has been appointed by the Board of Directiors of The South Carolina Railroad Museum to cordinate restoration and operation of ex. Hampton and Branchville #44. 44 is the only steam locomotive built for a South Carolina railroad that has never left the state. Assessmnet of boiler and running gear indicate the the 44 is a excellent canidate for restoration. The Project 44 committee is now accepting donations toward the rstoration of this historic steam locomotive.
