Please refrain from posting inaccurate information on any locomotive. I am not sure where you got your information, but, SP745 DID NOT experience a crown sheet failure. We did however blow three of our five fusable plugs. There was no damage to the fire box on the locomotive. She is currently still in working order. As of today (July 10, 2006), ex-Southern Pacific (Texas & New Orleans) 745 is in Kansas City. We expect one more side trip (having already appeared in Liberty and Kearney, MO) and then the return to New Orleans in late August. Our 745 will be 'on point' for an excursion from Shreveport to New Orleans, although probably with a Diesel in the consist. Mechanically, LASTA (www.lasta.org) volunteers did a bunch of rod bearing work while the loco was in Kansas City. We may need to do a little spring work, but the mechanical side is coming nicely.

They are going to kill me for this one: 745 will begin a two month trip in two weeks (mid march). The trip is not publicised and only ten crew members are allowed on the train at once due to insurrance reasons. NO PUBLIC EXCURSIONS will be made. They will display the locomotive in numerous cities and attend a few festivals, but are trying to avoid causing massive chaos on the hwy by creating a chase line.
