Back when this locomotive was in Grand Island, Nebraska at the Stuhr Museum, number 69 was featured in the 1991 movie "Sarah, Plain and Tall". She sounded and looked great!!

It did too enter regular service and status should be changed to "OPERATIONAL".

The 69 DID NOT enter regular service until the first part of 2008. From the time it was delivered until early '08 the White Pass had been making test run after test run and making major repairs along the way including but not limited to: removing the smokebox to correct improper installation, replacing all rod bearings and turning some pins, turning journals, staybolt work, replace one piston rod....etc. It now does run while the #73 is down for work but the crews are afraid of it. Anyone that doubts what is stated here feel free to contact whitepass mechanical managment.

After #69 worked for the WP&Y it was bought by the Black Hills Central Railroad in 1952, restored, and pulled trains on that railroad for 12 years until 1964 when it was replaced by engine #7, (See South Dakota page) which is still used by that railroad. The #69 was THEN sold to the Stuhr Museum in Grand Island, NE. (On the BHCRR the 69 was named 'Klondike Casey' in honor of the WP&Y)

Okay, this engine IS in Skagway, AK, and apparently, there was some delay, as on the website it says "No. 69 is coming in June". Not too much of a delay.
