Dale W Fickés states the history and numbering as follows: Succesively as No. U.5 upon delivery in 1898 to kkStB, DÖStB, ÖStB and BBÖ until 1938; then DRB and ÖStB as No. 99 7811 until 1953; then as ÖBB No. 298.05 to present day. After a 5 year spell at the Stainzer Flascherlzug, in 2018 it returned to the Steyrtalbahn, where it had been in service until 1953, now under the auspices of the ÖGEG at Grünburg.
