In October 2022, the refurbished locomotive, equipped with a new boiler, was put back into operation after 18 years of standstill. Home base is Grünburg. 47.975352° 14.268197°

Dale W Fickés gives the loco history as follows: OeBB (NOLB) No. 298.53 was produced for the NÖLB as No. 7 (1898 - 1908) then as No. U.3 until 1922, when it became BBÖ No. U.53 until 1938. DRB and later ÖStB ran it as No. 99 7819 until 1953, whereupon it became ÖBB No. 298.53, inherited by its current owners the ÖGEG at Grünberg on the Steyrtalbahn. Under restoration at Steyer.

The loco 298.53 is not operational at the moment. She has been disassembled for a major overhaul & boiler work.
