Delivered to the NOLB in 1906 as their No. 53, it was renumbered Mh.4 (1908 - 1922) retaining that identity in BBÖ (1922 - 1938) whence it became DRB No. 99 1114 (1938 - 1945), then ÖStB (1945 - 1953). The ÖBB inherited this locomotive in 1953 as their No. 399.04, which also ran as No. 399.004. The ÖBB inherited this locomotive in 1953 as their No. 399.04, the identity it retained into the NÖVOG fleet in 2010. Believed to be operational since 2015.

Properly, the Whyte Notation wheel arrangement for this locomotive should be 0-8-0+4 with the +4 denoting that part of the locomotive's weight is carried by the tender wheels through the use of weight transfer beams. This is called the "Engerth Type"
