The ex LNER A4 Pacific 4-6-2 No. 60007 "Sir Nigel Gresley", will be returning to her birth place at Doncaster Works for what will be a final open day event on the 20th of June 2026 at Wabtec’s Doncaster site before the plant as its known is closed at the end of the year. Also 2026 is a special year for LNER locomotives as this year marks the 150th birthday of Sir Nigel Gresley who designed and built many steam locomotives for the LNER including "Flying Scotsman" and the famous A4 Pacific locomotives including "Sir Nigel Gresley" and her famous sister No. 4468 "Mallard".

The Open Day is being held to celebrate Heaton’s 150 years of railway history as part of the national Railway 200 celebration.

Following the photo press launch at Derby Litchchurch Lane Works for the official Rail 200 “Greatest Gathering “, its been confirmed that ex LNER A4 Pacific 4-6-2 No. 60007 "Sir Nigel Gresley", will one of many locomotives on display at the Greatest Gathering at Derby Litchurch Lane works as part of the Railway 200 celebrations from the 1st to 3rd of August 2025. As part of the celebrations to mark 200 years of opening of the Stockton and Darlington Railway and 200 years of the moden railway we all know today.

After a good visit to its former home the North Yorkshire Moors Railway, ex LNER A4 Pacific 4-6-2 No. 60007 "Sir Nigel Gresley" will be out on the mainline again over the Christmas season with a special Steam Dream trip from London, Kings Cross station, via York to Eidinburgh on the 23rd of November, followed by a trip over the Forth Bridge on the 25th of November 2023. After this No. 60007 will return to Crewe for the winter. But in 2024 No. 60007 "Sir Nigel Gresley" will be visiting the East Lancashire Railway to star at their Legends of Steam Gala from the 15th to 17th of March 2024.

Following its visit to the Nene Valley Railway the ex LNER A4 Pacific 4-6-2 No. 60007 "Sir Nigel Gresley" will have a busy season out on the mainline with Locomotive Services Limited working mainline trips on their Saphos Trains and Steam Dreams tours this year, and later this year the locomotive will be making a return visit to the North Yorkshire Moors Railway in late September and October 2023, and will take part in their 50th Anniversary Steam Gala from the 21st to 24th of September 2023 then.

Having had a good visit to the North Yorkshire Moors Railway over late September and October, ex LNER A4 Pacific 4-6-2 No. 60007 "Sir Nigel Gresley" currently running in her LNER Wartime Black livery as No. 4498 will be heading south to work some Christmas railtours on the mainline with Steam Dreams this December alongside ex LNER B1 4-6-0 No. 61306 "Mayflower". After that No. 60007 will return to LNWR Heritage at Crewe for the winter for her maintinace and to be painted back into the iconic British Railways Blue livery of the 1950s again for 2023 and onwards.

60007 has commenced something of a tour after her latest overhaul with her next booked visit being to her former home of the North Yorkshire Moors Railway for their autumn steam gala on 22nd-25th September. Afterwards, she will likely remain on the NYMR for a few weeks hauling regular timetabled services.

The overhaul on ex LNER A4 Pacific 4-6-2 No. 60007 "Sir Nigel Gresley" is now completed as the locomotive was unveiled at Locomotive Service Ltd’s depot at LNWR Heritage in Crewe today for members of its owners the Sir Nigel Gresley Locomotive Trust during a members day today as today marked 55 years since No. 60007 was handed over from British Rail to the Sir Nigel Gresley Locomotive Trust for preservation. The A4 has been turned out in LNER Wartime Black livery with her LNER number 4498 which this will the livery No. 4498 will be in for running in and testing before it is painted in BR Blue livery.

The ex LNER A4 Pacific 4-6-2 No. 60007 "Sir Nigel Gresley" underwent a new hydraulic boiler test on the 31st of January 2022 which was successfully completed and passed. The test has reset the start of the 10-year boiler certificate which has currently been held since the last test, which was carried out whilst the boiler was being overhauled at the Llangollen Railway. With this now done a steam test won’t be far off now and then running trials can begin at the Severn Valley Railway.

With her overhaul and rebuild in its final stages of completion in spring 2022 its been announced that ex LNER A4 Pacific 4-6-2 No. 60007 "Sir Nigel Gresley" will be tested and run-in at the Severn Valley Railway before starting mainline test runs before entering service with Locomotive Services Ltd. for mainline running on their Saphos Trains as well as other railtour dutys and visits to preserved railways around the UK.

The ex LNER A4 Pacific 4-6-2 No. 60007 "Sir Nigel Gresley" has now left the National Railway Museum and is relocating to its new home at LNWR Heritage at Crewe in Cheshire. Where her overhaul will be completed there and words No. 60007 will operate on the mainline with Locomotive Services Ltd. on their Saphos Trains railtours as well as use with other railtour charters and visits to preserved railways around the UK.

The ex LNER A4 Pacific 4-6-2 No. 60007 "Sir Nigel Gresley" has emerged from the workshop of the National Railway Museum and has been unveiled in tempary Wartime Black Livery with her LNER number No. 4498. The locomotive will soon be moved to LNWR Heritage at Crewe for final stages of her overhaul and testing before she enters service on the mainline and heritage railway circuit from spring 2022. By then the A4 will be painted in British Railways Blue Livery again.

The ex LNER A4 Class Pacific No. 60007 "Sir Nigel Gresley" is to leave the workshops of the National Railway Museum and be relocated to the locomotive’s base at LNWR Heritage at Crewe in Cheshire for final completion of its overhaul. The overhaul on ex LNER A4 Pacific No. 60007 "Sir Nigel Gresley" is on the home straight but has been held up due to the pandemic. It is hoped that the A4 will be completed later this year where it will then move to the North Yorkshire Moors Railway for testing and running in before moving to LNWR Heritage at Crewe for mainline test runs and to take up mainline duty with Locomotive Services Ltd. for mainline railtours and visits to other preserved railways around the UK.

The boiler of LNER A4 Pacific No. 60007 "Sir Nigel Gresley" has successfully passed its latest steam test at the Llangollen Railway’s workshops. With this Now been been completed, the boiler will be transported to York to therefore be fitted to the frames of the locomotive as the overhaul is now in its final stages.

Following the news that No. 60007 "Sir Nigel Gresley" is to be operated and be under the care of Locomotive Services Ltd and the Royal Scot Locomotive & General Trust when she returns to the mainline and heritage railway circuit later this year or 2020. The locomotive will be based at LNWR Heritage at Crewe for its mainline railtours and visits to other preserved railways around the UK. Including the North Yorkshire Moors Railway, where it is intended to retain strong links with them still.

LNER A4 Pacific No. 60007 "Sir Nigel Gresley" is to be operated out on the mainline with Crewe based Locomotive Services Ltd when she returns to the mainline under a 10 year deal between its owner the Sir Nigel Gresley Locomotive Trust and the Royal Scot Locomotive & General Trust. This will see 60007 out on the mainline more hauling railtours for Saphos Trains and visits to other preserved railways around the UK will also be considered. When not on the mainline or visiting other heritage lines No. 60007 will also be at work on its long term home the North Yorkshire Moors Railway. This deal will guarantee the A4s long-term future as a mainline performer. The locomotive is due back in service later this year or 2020.

The wheel sets have returned to York having been fitted with new tyres at the South Devon Railway workshops. Engineers from the North Yorkshire Moors Railway have measured the axle journals obtain accurate information to finish the axleboxes. Work continues at York on the braking system and the leading bogie.

At Llangollen work on the boiler continues, particularly on the firebox where the new side sheets have been stayed.

The 60007 (4498) is now withdrawn from service for an overhaul projected to take 3 years and coast over £500,000. The 60007 was fired up one last time yesterday.

One of six survivors of the LNER top flight express power. A sister of Mallard, the 126mph record holder, 60007 holds the British post war speed record at 112mph. Elegant streamlining was retained to the very end, and the photo shows the loco as restored to the early 1950's British Railways blue livery. Named after its designer, it is currently based at Grosmont, North Yorkshire Moors Railway but is a popular and regular main line performer.
