Following its visit to the Bluebell Railway’s Giants of Steam in October 2022, BR Standard 4MT 2-6-0 Mogul No. 76017 did not return to the Mid Hants Railway. As after 44 year of preservation at the Mid Hants Railway No. 76017 has been sold to locomotive owner John Bunch and his family. No. 76017 was moved from the Bluebell Railway by rail being hauled by one of West Cost Railway Company’s Class 33 Diesel Locomotives No. 33029 to Southall Depot in West London where it is located. They are unconfirmed reports that No. 76017 could be moving to West Cost Railway Company’s Depot at Carnforth in Lancashire for an intermediate overhaul for use on the mainline again?

For her visit to the Bluebell Railway for their Giants of Steam Weekend and in a first for the Mid Hants Railway, BR Standard 4MT 2-6-0 Mogul No. 76017 will not be going on the back of a low loader by road as instead the locomotive is to be moved by rail from the Mid Hants Railway to the Bluebell Railway. No. 76017 is not mainline certified so this rather rare movement on Network Rail mainline metals will see No. 76017 moved using a West Coast Railway Company’s Class 37 diesel locomotive which will tow it to the Bluebell Railway for the weekend and back.
